Hong Kong, China actress and singer

Chinese Hong Kong actress and singer Born in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province in 1965, she graduated from the TVB Artist Training Class and her ancestral home is in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China. In 1989, Carina Lau starred in the TVB drama *Shanghai Great Storm*, playing two roles. In 1991, she played "Liang Fengying" in *Days of Being Wild*, winning the Best Actress Award at the Nantes Three Continents Film Festival in France and being nominated for Best Actress at the 28th Taiwan Film Golden Horse Awards.

Career Highlights  

Born on December 8, 1965 in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, she graduated from TVB Artist Training Class.  

1989: Starred in TVB drama *Shanghai Great Storm*, playing dual roles.  

1991: Portrayed "Liang Fengying" in *Days of Being Wild*, winning Best Actress at Nantes Three Continents Film Festival (France) and nominated for Best Actress at 28th Taiwan Golden Horse Awards.  

1998: Won Best Actress at 3rd Hong Kong Film Golden Bauhinia Awards for "Yuhuan" in *Hold You Tight*.  

2007: Won Best Actress at 26th China Golden Rooster Awards for "Qianyu" in *Curiosity Kills the Cat*.  

2011: Played "Wu Zetian" in *Detective Dee: The Mystery of the Phantom Flame*, winning Best Actress at 30th Hong Kong Film Awards.  

2014: Won Best Actress at 9th Osaka Asian Film Festival for "wealthy wife" in *Crossing Hennessy*.  

2015: Awarded Knight of Left Bank Wine Estates at Château Montrose, France.  

2016: Wax figure unveiled at Madame Tussauds; joined variety show *We Are Coming S1*. 

2017: Inducted as an Oscar voting member by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.  

2022: Starred in sci-fi film *Warriors of Future*.  

2024: Appeared in variety show *Jia Ren Zi You Yue* (March 14).  


Early Life  

Born in Suzhou, she lived in a 20㎡ alley house in Taohuawu with her family of four. Her father, an overseas Chinese working for a shipping company, earned meager wages and sold sacks outside Changmen Gate to make ends meet.  

A former gymnast, she studied at Suzhou No.21 Middle School. In 1980, she moved to Hong Kong with her family and graduated from TVB Artist Training Class (12th batch) in 1984, launching her entertainment career. 


 Notable Incident  

In August 2018, she revealed on a variety show that in 1990, refusing to star in a triad-financed film led to her abduction and forced nude photo shooting. She shared that the trauma once caused great turmoil, but she has since made peace with the past and forgiven her abductors.
